On Law & Order: SVU, Detectives Benson and Amaro are looking into a 17-year-old incest case. The woman who as a 6-year-old testified against her father in 1998 now wants to make amends. The show’s executive producer Warren Leight explains that Michelle, now an adult, has found sobriety. “Among the amends she needs to make is one to her father, because when she testified against him, she testified that he committed a crime he didn’t commit. She wants to recant. She wants to get him out of prison.” The D.A. who originally tried the case in 1998 (Robert Sean Leonard) still thinks her father is guilty. Plus, the DA “does not want to be made to look like he made a mistake.”
Michelle is portrayed by Samira Wiley. She’s best known from her role as Poussey in Orange Is the New Black, which returns on Netflix on June 12. Law & Order: SVU airs Wednesdays at 9pm on NBC.
