Tyanna Jones recently sang the Rihanna cover “Stay” on American Idol. She got emotional at the end — she cried. As she said in the package before her performance, the song reminds Tyanna of her grandmother who passed not long ago. That emotion she tapped into helped Tyanna stay on Idol. She needed a comeback. Now she’s one of the Top 7.
Prior to her live “Stay” performance, Tyanna practiced the arrangement with American Idol vocal coaches Michael Orland and Dorian Holley. She got teary-eyed then, too. Orland told Tyanna to show that emotion on stage. He said: “You have to go there every time you do this. You have to go there.” Tyanna is scheduled to perform two songs on Idol, April 15 (8pm on Fox). If she shows that kind of emotion again, she’ll make it to the Top 6.
