Tommy Craggs just left Deadspin–kind of–to “lord over every other Gawker Media site for the next year or so, after which he’ll probably need work.” That’s the opinion of Samer Kalaf, a Deadspin writer who takes aim and throws love at the kind of departing Deadspin kingpin Craggs. Kalaf has to get in line, because Deadspin this week looks like a Grateful Dead tribute site the day Jerry Garcia died–it’s all about one man: Tommy Craggs. Who is this man? He’s a media master, apparently forgiving and full of mirth. Also a miserable ass with problems. Craggs is not, however, the Badass You Think He Is, according to Bill Haisley.
The entire Deadspin staff has at Craggs–in a big Dean Martin-style roast without all the smoke and cameras. Fire though, sure. Tommy Craggs Is A Prick Who Just Fails Upward (A.J. Daulerio), Tommy Craggs Is Cheap (Timothy Burke), Tommy Craggs Is A Socially Awkward M*th%*fkr (Greg Howard). Also Grumpy Bastard And A Genius (again, Kalaf). And then there’s the relatively timid assessment by writer Albert Burneko–that Craggs is a “wreck in the kitchen.” Also, Craggs is A Crazy Cat Person (the great Tom Ley). All of this passive aggression proves two things: there are hardly any women at Deadspin (save Jolie Kerr, to whom Craggs owes money)–and that a man is whatever you say he is in the end. Or not.
