Airbrush makeup – makeup sprayed onto the skin using an airbrush instead of being smeared on with sponges and fingers – was first used on men. The technique was first used in 1959 on actors including Charlton Heston in Ben Hur and the 10,000 extras on the set! Airbrush makeup saw a second wave of popularity in Hollywood when high-definition video and television came around. Airbrush appears more natural to the camera than traditional powder or liquid based make-up.
