American Music Awards “New Artist of the Year,” Ariana Grande, will sing with country’s “Vocal Group of the Year,” Little Big Town, at the Country Music Association Awards (CMAs) broadcast on Wednesday, November 5 at 8pm on ABC. All the big country music stars will be there–Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton –you get the picture. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will co-host, again.
Not everyone is happy about pop stars Ariana Grande (Problem, My Everything) and Meghan Trainor (All About That Bass) joining the traditional country singers on stage. “Their presence contributes to an overall inferiority complex that seems apparent in Nashville’s upper ranks, who continue to forcibly blur the lines between genres, thereby suggesting that country music isn’t good enough to stand on its own. Perhaps the powers that be in country music should take a listen to All About That Bass and learn to love their own genre a little more,” wrote Grady Smith of The Guardian. That’s right, the English publication The Guardian cares about the integrity of American country music. Hey if it wasn’t for American blues, there would have been no British Invasion.
