Another day, another story about a superhero movie. Only this one has a twist. They’re not superheroes: they’re supervillains. Oscar winner Jared Leto might play the Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. Suicide Squad is a DC Comics creation, sort of a counterpoint to the Justice League: it tells the story of the government using a coterie of supervillains to go on secret missions in exchange for their freedom. Jesse Eisenberg is expected to reprise his role as Lex Luthor from the upcoming Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Ryan Gosling was offered the role of the Joker, but “he was unwilling to sign a deal with options for multiple movies,” reports the Wrap. Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are also circling parts in the Warner Bros. movie, which will be directed by Dark Knight screenwriter David Ayer. By the way: coterie of supervillains? Not very bad-ass. What is the collective term for a group of villains? A vortex of villains? A bounce of baddies?
