It’s 90 degrees in Flushing Meadows at the US Open. The heat helped knock out world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who lost his high noon show down with the buoyant young Japanese star Kei Nishikori. The preternaturally cool Roger Federer looked hot, too, and Croatian Marin Cilic took advantage, dispatching him. (These finals could be the least watched US Open Finals in a long time. Just the opposite of what CBS/ESPN had in mind when Djokovic and Federer were seeded No. 1 and No. 2 .)
But you know who didn’t look hot though? Gwen Stefani–the 44-year-old singer who was sitting court side wearing an all black satin-looking long-sleeve top that went right up to her throat. She should have been boiling. Did we mention it’s 90 degrees? For good measure she was wearing a layer or two of runway level makeup and yet she looked cool as can be. How does she do it? Rock star, fashion icon and now ice princess? Stefani has long been known as being among the hottest women on the culture scene. But she sure looked cool today. Cooler than Djokovic and Federer. And she had a baby boy, too, Apollo Bowie Flynn, just six months ago.
