When not breaking the heart of Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) on Grey’s Anatomy (season 11 premieres on September 26 and it doesn’t look good for MerDer), actress Ellen Pompeo (Dr. Meredith Grey) is working on another ABC set. This time she’s stepping behind the camera.
Pompeo is producing an adaptation of Rachel Carey’s novel Debt for ABC Family. It’s about a young woman in New York who went into $100,000 in student loan debt to get her master’s degree in creative writing, and now she’s realizing she’s probably not that good of a writer. She gets an SAT tutoring job to help reduce the debt. She gets close to one student and his wealthy family. She learns a lot about how the world really works – enough juicy material for a bestselling book.
