Comedian Ricky Gervais is working on a new film based on his The Office alter ego David Brent. To be released in 2015, the untitled David Brent movie “will be filmed in a similar ‘mockumentary’ style to The Office,” The Guardian reports. Gervais confirmed the film during a Facebook Q&A, where he posted “I might die before I finish it though :)” Bad news considering that 2015 release date.
Maybe Gervais means he’s working himself to death. When not on the movie set, Gervais will continue to shoot his Netflix original TV series Derek. Gervais plays the title character, a compassionate nursing home caretaker who might “lack in some mental faculty.” Derek is also shot in Gervais’ signature mockumentary style. Matt Zoller Seitz at Vulture describes Derek as “The year’s funniest sitcom about loneliness, failure, and fear of death.”
