The Lonely Hour singer Sam Smith will make his first appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) this Sunday, August 24. He’ll join Beyoncé, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj but, let’s face it – no one on stage is going to bring the tears like Sam Smith.
At the VMAs, Sam Smith will perform his hit Stay With Me, the song that has him nominated for Best Male Video and Artist to Watch. The Stay With Me video is up against some fierce competition including Pharrell Williams’ ubiquitous Happy which was viewed more than 383 million times on YouTube. Speculation is surfacing that with what’s going on in Ferguson (and elsewhere), the Best Male Video won’t go to the carefree, dance-in-the-middle-of-the-street Happy video, but will go to a more somber, church choir-backed video like Stay With Me.
