One of the 170,000 emails gathered from the Sony hack via Wikileaks included an exchange about a live-action film featuring the Mattel doll character Barbie. Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group president Doug Belgrad mentioned the Australian actress Margot Robbie for the role. Laurie MacDonald, producer behind Gladiator and Men In Black, wrote “She [Robbie] is Barbie come to life – she’d be great.”
The 24-year-old actress is currently filming Suicide Squad with Scott Eastwood and Jared Leto. She’s best known in America for her roles in The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio and Focus with Will Smith, who is also starring in Suicide Squad.
