Writer Nick Montemarano is having a very good start to 2013. His third novel, The Book of Why, was published in January by Little, Brown & Co. It will also be published by Headline Books (UK), Eksmo (Russia), and Leya (Brazil). That’s a lot of continents. In the novel, a confident (confidence?) man who peddles self-help tries to swallow his own medicine after the devastating loss of his wife. Storytellers like Jayne Anne Phillips, Dan Chaon, Julie Orringer, and David Means praise Montemarano’s depth and style.
When not at a residency like MacDowell or on the campus of Franklin and Marshall College, where he is Department Chair and Associate Professor of English, Montemarano is most likely playing baseball in his backyard with his wife, his son and their (female) German Shepherd, Ralph. He is a New York City native.
