Kim Kardashian West reveals many secrets to her style success on Instagram. The shapewear entrepreneur has been super transparent lately addressing the “slip ups” she’s had with shapewear in the past, and how these pushed her to design her own brand — the soon-to-be-famous SKIMS.
Shapewear and Kim Kardashian’s famous hourglass figure are a perfect match, and her experience with other brands (which she won’t mention by name) presented numerous challenges she’s determined to solve.
One big challenge was the colors — most shapewear wasn’t available in the wide range of colors that people come in, and so KKW was forced to wear shapewear that was too visible for her liking. This even happened on important red carpets, like at last year’s People’s Choice Awards where she wore a dress by Jean-Paul Gaultier.
Kim’s shapewear drew too much attention to itself beneath her dress because the color wasn’t a match. Her new line of SKIMS vows to resolve the problem of multiple hues — she’s wearing “ochre” in the video above. But her solution back then was often to dye her shapewear underwear in tea so that it would darken and match her skin toner. She doesn’t say what kind of tea.
