The Dateline episode “Suspicion in Silver City” investigates the 2014 death of Cassy Farrington, a 23-year-old mother of two who was found dead in her home outside of Silver City, New Mexico. Farrington’s landlady found her fully clothed in the bathtub which was overflowing. Four years later, in September 2018, Farrington’s estranged husband, former Silver City police officer Bradley Farrington, was sentenced to life for first-degree murder.

At his sentencing, Cassy’s mother, Darlene Brooks, who asked the judge to give the maximum sentence, addressed her former son-in-law directly and said: “Brad, you tried to isolate Cassy from her own family. You held her prisoner in her own home. You abused her physically and emotionally. You made her live in fear for herself and the kids. You tracked, stalked and choked her. You made her cry every day. You took your children’s mother away from them. You showed no remorse or empathy at all at her funeral to the point that you had no tears and covered your ears.”
