The 48-year-old native New Yorker who faced adversity growing up has become a trailblazer. Blige has set a number of recording industry records including being the youngest and first female artist to sign with Uptown Records (in 1989). Blige has released 13 albums since then, racked up nine Grammy Awards, and was nominated for two Oscars for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song in the 2017 movie Mudbound).
