Hadestown: The Myth is the Broadway musical show with 14 nominations at The 73rd Annual Tony Awards, the most nominations of any show in 2019. Hadestown is based on Anaïs Mitchell’s 2010 folk opera concept album of the same title. Mitchell is the playwright, composer and lyricist of the stage adaptation.
Hadestown is directed by Rachel Chavkin. The story is a modern version of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheus travels to the underworld to save his fiancée Eurydice. The Broadway show opened in April to rave reviews.
Mitchell, the 38-year-old playwright from Vermont, is married to Noah Hahn, a Reiki practitioner at Maha Rose Center For Healing in New York City. Two weeks prior to the Tony Awards, Mitchell and her husband Hahn went to the legendary Sardi’s restaurant for the Outer Critic’s Circle awards ceremony. Hadestown won Best Score and Best Musical. Mitchell donated the prize money to Planned Parenthood.
