In the Season 5 finale of Empire, “My Fate Cries Out,” while Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) gets picked up by AUSA Conway (guest star Alicia Coppola), her sons Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) and Andre (Trai Byers) and Becky (Gabourey Sidibe) come up with a plan to save Empire. They put on a show with special guests Sevyn Streeter and Ty Dolla $ign. At the show, Ty Dolla $ign sings “This Time” with Yazz (Hakeem) and Sevyn Streeter sings “Savage & Selfish” with Serayah. The single includes the line: “I don’t need nobody else / except for myself.”
Sevyn Streeter (born Amber Denise Streeter) is best known for being a member of the R&B girl groups TG4 (2001-2004) and RichGirl (2007-2011). She released her debut solo album Girl Disrupted in 2017 which includes the single “Fallen” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Cam Wallace (see video below).

When not in the studio recording, she’s writing songs for others including Chris Brown, Usher, Kelly Rowland, Ariana Grande, Alicia Keys, and Fantasia, among others. Fun fact: At the age of 10, she tied for first place on Showtime at the Apollo. After she sang “My Funny Valentine,” host Steve Harvey yelled out, “Shocking!” See video below. Empire airs Wednesdays at 8 pm on FOX, right before Star.
