It was both a literal and a symbolic move at once — Ayesha Curry, chef and wife of 2x NBA MVP Steph Curry, tossed her Spanx away because they did not bring her joy. Too much compression and suppression, whether it’s of the flesh or the mind and emotions — that’s bad news and unhealthy to Curry’s way of thinking. When her recent interview with Jada Pinkett Smith sparked a lot of emotion around the internet, Curry responded to say hey don’t just read the headlines, listen the the whole thing — so you get what’s real.
“If you get a chance to watch the actual RTT and not the headlines and rumors please do! There is so much more depth to the talk and our family is grateful to @jadapinkettsmith for giving us the opportunity to bond together. As women let’s continue to uplift, empower and not suppress and compress our feelings and thoughts…”
So while Curry means it literally when she tosses her Spanx in a “Marie Kondo-Esque bin” there is more to it than what appears on the surface. Symbolically it’s also important that compression of the body may lead to compression of, as Curry references, feelings and thoughts. As she advises women who are afraid of their own truths, let’s “not suppress and compress our feelings and thoughts.”
