There is more than one protagonist on the new TV series The Red Line. There’s high school teacher Daniel Calder (Noah Wyle, ER), who’s grieving the death of his husband Harrison (Corey Reynolds), an African-American doctor who (while unarmed) was shot by a white cop on the South Side of Chicago. There’s Daniel and Harrison’s adopted daughter Jira (Aliyah Royale) who, while searching to make sense of everything, asks to meet her biological mother. Unbeknownst to her, her mother Tia Young (Emayatzy Corinealdi) is running for office. She hopes to unseat incumbent alderman Nathan Gordon.

Nathan Gordon is portrayed by Glynn Turman. The Primetime Emmy Award-winning actor is known for his roles on How To Get Away with Murder (Nate Lahey, Sr.), House of Lies (Jeremiah Kaan), The Wire (Mayor Clarence Royce), A Different World (Colonel Brad Taylor), and Peyton Place (Lew Miles), among many others. Turman won the Emmy for his guest role on HBO’s In Treatment with Gabriel Byrne and Dianne Wiest. P.S. He was also married to the late great Aretha Franklin (see photo below). The Red Line premieres on CBS on Sunday, April 28 at 8 pm. The Red Line premieres Sunday, April 28 at 8 pm on CBS.
