In the Proven Innocent episode “The Shame Game,” Madeline (Rachelle Lefevre) takes on the case of Sarah Bukhari. She’s a Muslim woman who’s been sentenced to 25 years in prison for murdering her newborn child. During the trial, on her way into the courthouse, she is violently harassed by anti-abortion protesters. Madeline’s nemesis, Gore Bellows (Kelsey Grammer), couldn’t be happier about Madeline’s new client. As his conspiring wife Grata (Laurie Holden) says to her husband, taking on the controversial case will “gut her (Madeline’s) firm and silence your greatest critic.”
