In the Speechless episode “S-P– Special B– Boy T-I—Time,” JJ (Micah Fowler) tries a new aide after he and Kenneth (Cedric Yarbrough) agree to spend a day apart. Meanwhile, Ray (Mason Cook) tries to manipulate his mother Maya (Minnie Driver) over an unfulfilled promise of mother-son time. He fails. His plan backfires. Maya calls his bluff and takes him to a water park designed for little kids. It is the ultimate “guilt trip.”

Minnie Driver, in real life a 49-year-old mother of 10-year-old son Henry, said about the water park scenes: “In the Venn diagram of me and Maya, our cross over is a LOATHING of water parks. This episode was about the MOST unpleasant thing to shoot but it is horribly funny.” Speechless airs Fridays at 8:30 pm on ABC, right after Fresh off the Boat and right before 20/20.
