In the Grey’s Anatomy episode “I Walk the Line,” while a blast from the past throws Maggie (Kelly McCreary) off her game, a sea of patients flood Grey Sloan Memorial after gunfire goes off at a parade. A Scottish bagpipe playing band, La Scots Pipe Band, crowds the hospital hallways with their instruments and kilts, when one of their own is injured. The leader of the band gets in the face of Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd, who also directs the episode) who is trying to treat the musician.
[Wow remember Season One? Stream it!]
The leader of the bagpipe band is portrayed by Billy Boyd. The real life Scotsman is best known for his role as Pippin in The Lord of the Rings movies. He also played Banquo in the 2014 film Macbeth. Boyd will appear next on the big screen in the American comedy Walking with Herb with Edward James Olmos, George Lopez and Kathleen Quinlan. Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 pm on ABC, right before A Million Little Things.
