In the Grey’s Anatomy episode “The Winner Takes It All,” while Amelia and Koracick tackle a daunting surgery on Catherine as Richard and Jackson hope for the best, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) visits her father, Thatcher, before it’s too late. Meredith and Thatcher have had a tumultuous relationship over the years.
When Thatcher’s second wife contracted an infection and died in surgery, he blamed his daughter Meredith and forbade her to go to his wife’s funeral. Nonetheless, when Thatcher need a liver transplant, Meredith gave him a piece of hers.

Since 2006, Thatcher Grey has been portrayed by actor Jeff Perry. He’s also known for his roles on Scandal (Cyrus Beene), Prison Break (Terrence Steadman), Nash Bridges (Inspector Harvey Leek), My So-Called Life (Richard Katimski), and in the 1998 sexy thriller film Wild Things, among others. Fun fact: Perry is married to Linda Lowy, casting director for Grey’s Anatomy’s and Scandal. Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 pm on ABC, right before Station 19.
