On New Year’s Eve, Lifetime is airing the 2015 erotic thriller Careful What You Wish For. The film, inspired by the 1981 movie Body Heat, is about a young man named Doug (Nick Jonas) who loses his virginity at his family’s lake house to the rich next-door neighbor’s young wife Lena (Isabel Lucas, The Loft). During the affair, Lena reveals that she’s been physically abused by her investment banker husband Elliot (Dermot Mulroney). When she calls Doug to the house for help, after killing Elliot in self-defense, she gets Doug to help her cover up the murder. When Elliot’s death is discovered, the town sheriff and insurance investigator (Kandyse McClure Battlestar Gallactica) shine a light on Lena (who would receive $10 million in life insurance) and her young lover. There’s a twist at the end.

The sheriff is portrayed by veteran actor Paul Sorvino. He’s known for his roles in Oliver Stone’s Nixon (Henry Kissinger), GoodFellas (Paul Cicero), Dick Tracy (Lips Manlis), Romeo + Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, The Rocketeer (Eddie Valentine), and Reds, among others. Fun fact: Sorvino is the father of Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino (Woody Allen’s Mighty Aphrodite). Careful What You Wish For premieres on LMN on Monday, December 31 at 8 pm.
