Only six castaways made it to the Season 37 finale of Survivor. During the two-hour episode, “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility,” the remaining four “Goliaths” and two “Davids” face a 63-piece puzzle challenge and a fire-making challenge. One of the Goliaths is Dr. Alison Raybould. People have tried to vote the Chapel Hill doctor out for three tribals — but here she is in the finals. (The other five castaways competing for the $1 million prize are: Nick Wilson, Kara Kay, Angelina Keeley, Mike White, and Davie Rickenbacker.)

Alison, the chief resident at the UNC Department of Medicine who’s now back at work, admits that she treated preparing for the show as a second job. Alison says she knew she had to learn how to make fire, which she did with flint. “I am actually pyrophobic and had never even lit a match on my own.” She added, “The Bunsen burner was my enemy in chem lab.” Still to this day, “I prefer flint and a machete to a match for my fire needs.”
Raybould is looking forward to her “next great adventure” as a hematology/oncology fellow at UNC. When asked if she would return to Survivor she says, “in a heartbeat.” Her dream would be to come back for Heroes vs. Villains season…as a hero. “Hopefully, the public still sees me as a hero by the end of the season.” The two-hour finale of Survivor airs Wednesday, December 19 at 8 pm on CBS.
