In the Married at First Sight: Honeymoon Island episode “Facing Your Fears,” Pastor Cal leads the couples through spiritual exercises. When facing their darkest fears, one couple connects instantly on their shared beliefs while another couple faces a big roadblock. When it comes to opening up with each other, Brandin and Jona have had the roughest start. Pastor Cal tries to help the forever patient Jona find out why Brandin has been so hesitant to open up to him from the start. Before the three sit-down and talk, Jona says optimistically, “I’m getting all the information I need, and it’s feeling good.” While Brandin compliments Jona for being “so receptive to hearing other people and listening to their opinions,” Jona says he wants to find solutions to problems big or small “because I don’t want to be bit in the ass later.” Pastor Cal nods in agreement. “I’m not here for a short term relationship,” says Jona. “I don’t want another girlfriend, that’s not my agenda.” See exclusive sneak peek video below.
When Pastor Cal asks Jona what he wants, he doesn’t blink an eye. He turns and looks at Brandin and says “I want long-term, I want marriage, I want a family.” When Jona continues to bare his soul and says, “I want that connection,” Brandin laughs. Pastor Cal tells Brandin “don’t laugh” and commends Jona for revealing himself. “What you’re talking about is really deep,” Pastor Cal tells Jona. The problem is Brandi isn’t as serious about their relationship. If you really wanted to get married and the man you were really in love with told you he wants “that connection,” would you swoon, sigh or laugh in his face?
