Chevel Shepherd is one of the five teenage girls who have made it to the Top 13 on The Voice, Season 15. The 16-year-old from New Mexico wowed everyone from the beginning — when she sang The Band Perry song “If I Die Young” for her Blind Audition. On Kelly Clarkson’s team, Chevel has been singing old country songs like the Bruce Robison song “Travelin Soldier” (which the Dixie Chicks covered in 2002, SEE LINK BELOW) and, more recently, The Judds 1986 song “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Old Days)”.

Clarkson later said of Shepherd, “Chevel, ain’t nobody like her in country music, she’s a force. A 16-year-old girl nailing Dixie Chicks? It’s over.” Fellow coach Adam Levine chimed in about Chevel: “You don’t need to know country to know you’re country,” he added, “It’s so great to feel how pure that is. Like, it’s so angelic. Really special to listen to.” Chevel’s only disadvantage when it comes to winning The Voice is her following on social media. She has just over 2,000 followers on Twitter and 13.8k on Instagram. Her fellow teen competitors, including 13-year-old Kennedy Holmes, have twice as many. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm on NBC.
