The new sitcom The Kids Are Alright is set in the early 1970s, in a working-class neighborhood outside of Los Angeles. The premiere episode watches the Irish-Catholic Cleary family react when the prodigal eldest son, Lawrence, comes home from the seminary and announces that he’s dropping out. His parents, Mike and Peggy, are beyond upset but there are plenty of distractions in a house with 8 kids (all boys), 3 bedrooms and one bathroom.
