On the October 7 episode of 60 Minutes, best-selling author and YouTube star John Green is interviewed. The author talks about living with mental illness and how he copes with it. Green says he uses compulsive behavior to manage the worry and overwhelmed feeling that comes with, what he calls, “thought spirals.” When the interviewer, Jon Wertheim, asks Green “How do you get out of this coil? How do you break this infinity?”, Green says he exercises. While Green admits that he doesn’t enjoy it, exercise is “pretty magical in my life.” In the segment, Green is seen jogging with Wertheim.
L. Jon Wertheim is executive editor and senior writer at Sports Illustrated, where he has been covering tennis, the NBA, and mixed martial arts since 1996. Although he was born in Bloomington, Indiana, home of Indiana University, Wertheim went to Yale University (B.A. in History, Economics) and the University of Pennsylvania (J.D.). He is also an analyst at Tennis Channel, and author of ten books including his most recent Strokes of Genius (about the greatest match ever played; Federer vs Nadal at the 2008 Wimbledon men’s final). 60 Minutes airs Sundays at 7pm on CBS. [Note: Stream any CBS show through Amazon Prime or CBS ALL-ACCESS. Both options offer free trials.]
For 60 Minutes, Wertheim interviewed Japanese baseball phenom Shohei Ohtani in 2017, and NFL running back Marshawn Lynch in 2016, among others.
