The 48 Hours episode “Dead Ringer” interviews Ramon Sosa, a well-known boxing trainer in Woodlands, Texas, who was the target in a murder-for-hire plot. He owned a successful gym, Woodlands Boxing & Fitness, where his wife, Maria de Lourdes Dorantes “LuLu” Sosa, taught kickboxing. In 2015, she filed for divorce. It was a bitter battle. Three months after she filed for divorce, a client at the gym (a former gang member) overheard Lulu talking about hiring a hit man, and told Ramon. (Snitching is a big no-no in the gang world.) That client became an undercover operative to prove Lulu was behind the murder for hire plot. With the police, Ramon staged his death. A photo of him with what looked like a gunshot to the head was taken — he was lying in a grave that was dug for him. It was sent to his wife for proof of the murder.

In October 2016, Lulu Sosa pleaded guilty to solicitation of capital murder. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison. From a state prison in Gatesville, Texas, Lulu Sosa has refused interview requests from the media. Ramon Sosa has declared bankruptcy and moved out of his house. He’s living in a small apartment and put everything in storage. Outside of his storage unit, Ramon recently said, “Maybe one day I’ll have a bonfire. You know, just burn everything.” 48 Hours airs Saturdays at 10 pm on CBS.
