The Dateline episode “A Deal with the Devil” investigates the disappearance of 25-year-old Jennifer Marcum. Marcum was last seen near the Denver International Airport on February 17, 2003. Before her disappearance, the single mom and strip club dancer Marcum visited her boyfriend, Steven Ennis, who was in a federal detention center awaiting trial on charges of running a drug ring (Ecstasy). Marcum was listed as a potential witness in Ennis’s trial. Enniss’ former cellmate, Scott Kimball, was released early to work as an FBI informant. During his supervised release between January 2003 and August 2004, Kimball murdered four people: his ex-wife’s daughter Kaysi McLeod, 19; LeAnn Emry, 24; his 60-year-old uncle, Terry Kimball, and Jennifer Marcum — according to his guilty plea. While working as an informant, he used the alias “Hannibal.” Kimball fled to California where in 2006 he was arrested again after a televised car chase and standoff.

At the time of her death, Marcum had full custody of her 4-year-old son and was employed as a dancer at Shotgun Willie’s, a strip club in Glendale, Colorado. When Kimball was charged with Marcum’s murder in 2009, her father Robert Marcum said he was glad Kimball had been finally charged with his daughters murder but he wasn’t getting his hopes up. “This guy has buffaloed people for so many years.” The buffaloing came to an end for Kimball that year after his guilty plea. Kimball is currently serving 70 years in prison for the murders. Dateline airs Fridays at 9pm on ABC.
