In the Station 19 episode “Every Second Counts,” Fire Chief Ripley (Brett Tucker) interviews each member of the Station 19 crew to determine whether Andy (Jaina Lee Ortiz) or Jack (Grey Damon) should be given the job of captain. Meanwhile, Andy and Warren (Jason George) make the decision to help when they see a horrific bus accident and learn the local fire department won’t be able to get there for another eight minutes. Luckily, there is some comic relief during the episode — the sexy and flirtatious character JJ will make an appearance.

JJ is portrayed by Brenda Strong. She’s known for her roles on Superstore (Kristen), Pure Genius (Angie Cheng), Life in Pieces (Matt’s ex-wife Bonnie), Dads (Veronica), New Girl (Daisy), Scandal (Alissa), and Disney’s The Suite Life on Deck and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (London Tipton), among others. Station 19 airs Thursdays at 9pm on ABC, right after Grey’s Anatomy and right before Quantico.
