In the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode “Mama,” a resident at an assistant living facility, Madeline (Fionnula Flanagan), claims she was raped. The problem is she can’t provide details because of her illness (she has Alzheimer’s) which casts doubt on the case. One of the suspects is Leonard Maxwell, an older gentlemen who wears a goatee. Leonard Maxwell is portrayed by Hal Linden.
[After winning a Tony, Linden landed the role of Barney Miller]
The 87-year-old actor playing Leonard Maxwell is best known for his TV role as Captain Barney Miller on the sitcom Barney Miller about a police precinct in the Bronx. Linden was nominated for an Emmy every year the show aired (1974-1982). He’s also well recognized as a stage actor: he won the 1971 Tony award for his role in “The Rothchilds.” Linden is known for his Bronx accent and his mustache. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit airs Wednesdays at 9pm on NBC.
