Forty-three home cooks are competing on MasterChef, Season 9. This year, the judges — Gordon Ramsay, Aaron Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich — will pick their favorites to mentor. At the end of the premiere, each judge will give 8 aprons to 24 home cooks who get to stay and compete. The home cooks come from all over the world and have left their jobs temporarily to compete in the kitchen. Some of the most interesting contestants are country singer Jessica Meuse, bikini model Nik Stewart from Cayman Islands, and professional grocery shopper Ashley Mincey from Opa-Locka, Florida. She works for Shipt.
Shipt is a membership-based grocery marketplace that delivers fresh foods and household essentials from local stores. A monthly Shipt subscription is $14 per month; a yearly subscription is $99. According to the company website, experienced Shipt shoppers can make anywhere from $16 to $22 an hour and that doesn’t include tips. (7 out of 10 members tip shoppers.) MasterChef airs Wednesdays at 8pm on FOX.
