It’s down to the final four artists on The Voice — Team Kelly’s Brynn Cartelli, Team Alicia’s Britton Buchanan, and Team Blake’s Spensha Baker and Kyla Jade. In addition to god-given talent, Blake Shelton’s artists also bring experience to the stage. Spensha is a former child star gospel singer while Kyla Jade is an accomplished backup singer.
After her blind audition, Kyla revealed that she had been on The Voice stage before, singing backup for former Voice coach Jennifer Hudson (who’s coming back for Season 15, btw). For the Season 14 Live Finale, Jennifer Hudson is coming back to sing “I Know Where I’ve Been” with Kyla Jade.

“I Know Where I’ve Been” is from the Broadway musical Hairspray. It’s performed by the character Motormouth Maybelle. In the original John Waters film Hairspray, Motormouth Maybelle was played by the late Ruth Brown. In the 2007 film, Queen Latifah played the role. And in the 2016 Hairspray Live TV special, Jennifer Hudson put on a big and beautiful blond wig for the role.

In all versions, Motormouth Maybelle sings the soulful gospel song “I Know Where I’ve Been” as she leads a protest for racial equality through the streets of Baltimore. (Hairspray is set in the 1960s.) The winner of The Voice Season 14 will be announced on Tuesday, May 22 on NBC.
