In the Living Biblically episode “Let Us Pray,” film critic Chip (Jay R. Ferguson) and his wife Leslie (Lindsey Kraft) are visited by Leslie’s mother Diana. Over a glass of wine in the living room, Diana, who’s a scientist, spars with Chip about the power of prayer. Based on the photo above, it looks like Diana wins an argument or two.

Leslie’s mother Diana is portrayed by JoBeth Williams. Williams s known for her recurring roles on Hart of Dixie (Candice Hart), Private Practice (Bizzy Forbes), Dexter (Gail Brandon), and The Client (Reggie Love), among others. Williams is also well recognized for her roles in the films Poltergeist (wife/mother Diane Freeling), The Big Chill (Karen), and Kramer vs. Kramer (Phyllis), among others. Living Biblically airs Mondays at 9:30pm on CBS, right after Superior Donuts.
[NOTE about streaming: Cable cutters can watch a live stream of every CBS show through Amazon Prime or CBS ALL-ACCESS. Both options offer free trials.]
Whilst we’re all on the subject of great performances, can we just take a moment to appreciate the criminally underrated performance of JoBeth Williams in Poltergeist (1982)?
