Season 10 of The Real Housewives of New York City just might be the most dramatic. Luann de Lesseps is back after rehab and resisting arrest after she split from her new husband Tom D’Agostino. And watching former Real Housewife Jill Zarin say goodbye to her late husband Bobby in January 2018 is a real tear-jerker. Luckily, there are moments of pure hilarity. On Bethenny Frankel‘s birthday, all the ladies get together at a restaurant. Luann decides to serenade Bethenny a la Marilyn Monroe. (Ms. Monroe famously had to be sewn into her body-hugging dress to serenade then-president John F. Kennedy — they weren’t just friends, it turns out.) Is Luann’s birthday serenade awkward? Yes. Is it sweet? Yes. As Bethenny says, “We are all really a bunch of morons, and this is when we shine.”
[Bethenny’s novel is loosely based on her own life as a young struggling actress]
The birthday song is followed by dessert and Groucho Marx-style eyeglasses and noses are passed around. The ladies all let loose and dance around the table. No one is taking themselves seriously. “This is my type of birthday,” says Bethenny. The Real Housewives of New York City airs Wednesdays at 9pm on Bravo.
