In The Simpsons episode “3 Scenes Plus a Tag From a Marriage,” Homer and Marge reminisce about their lives before they had kids. Walking down memory lane involves a story about Marge working for the local newspaper, Springfield Shopper. Back then each copy was 50 cents and one of the big stories the paper broke was when the university was bulldozed to make room for a nuclear power plant. Marge’s boss at the paper was JJ Gruff. He’s voiced by Oscar-winning actor JK Simmons (Whiplash).
This is JK Simmons’ third time on The Simpsons. He voiced the Tabloid Editor on the 2007 episode “Homerazzi” when Homer became a successful paparazzi, and the voice of J. Jonah Jameson on the 2006 episode “Moe’N’a Lisa” when Lisa helped Moe become a distinguished poet. Simmons also voices the Jameson character in the movie Spider-Man and the TV series Ultimate Spider-Man. In the Marvel Universe, Jameson is the editor-in-chief of The Daily Bugle (see clips below). The Simpsons airs Sundays at 8pm on FOX, right before Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
