In the Modern Family episode “Wine Weekend,” the whole family goes on a wine-tasting trip and stays in Haley’s (Sarah Hyland) boss’s country house. (Her boss is the owner of a very successful lifestyle website.) Haley lays down the rules which include, “Don’t touch the tiara on display in the drawing room.” Before leaving the house, Haley tells her family that her boss left them fancy robes that they can wear around the house. Meanwhile, while Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Gloria (Sofia Vergara) go into town to buy wine, they bump into Mitchell’s friend Ronaldo. Ronaldo is in town to cater a party at Oprah Winfrey’s house. He promises to get Mitch and Gloria into the party but they can’t bring anyone else. And yes, that includes Cam. Mitchell explains to Gloria that Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Ronaldo’s husband Pepper are in a feud over cheese and crackers.
Mitchell’s friend Ronaldo has appeared in eight Modern Family episodes. The last one was “Sex, Lies, and Kickball” in October 2017. Ronaldo and his husband Pepper (portrayed by Nathan Lane) meet Mitch and Cam in a park with their kids. When a kickball game ensues, Cam loses his cool. Ronaldo is portrayed by Guatemalan-born actor Christian Barillas. Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC.
