In the Madam Secretary episode “Refuge,” LGBTQ citizens have been arrested in a country that made homosexuality illegal a year ago — after it gained full independence. Asylum seekers in the U.S. Embassy are saying it’s a pogrom against the LGBTQ community. Jay (Sebastian Arcelus) suggests reaching out to Brent Rose, the executive director of the Human Crisis Foundation. “He usually has solid on-the-ground intel on LGBTQ issues,” Jay says of Rosen. And he does.

Brent Rosen is portrayed by BD Wong. He’s known for his roles on Gotham (Dr. Hugo Strange), Mr. Robot (Whiterose), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Dr. George Huang), Awake (Dr. John Lee), Oz (Father Ray Mukada), and All-American Girl (Dr. Stuart Kim), among others. The Broadway star (he won a Tony Award for his role in M. Butterfly) is also well-recognized for his role as Dr. Henry Wu in the Jurassic Park movies.
