In the NCIS episode “Dark Secrets,” when seemingly happy Navy lieutenant Melissa Newhall (Kaitlyn Black, Hart of Dixie) is assumed to have taken her own life, the team investigates. Newhall turned down a lot of lucrative job offers to become a JAG officer and was engaged to be married. While the team interviews her family and friends, her dark secrets are exposed. One of the lieutenant’s colleagues, Navy Captain Bud Roberts, Jr. (who Gibbs knows, of course), helps with the investigation. (Roberts has appeared on NCIS before, in 2016 and 2003).
Captain Roberts is portrayed by Patrick Labyorteaux. He’s known for his roles on JAG (Bud Roberts, Jr.), and as a child star on Little House on the Prairie (Andy). Labyorteaux is also well recognized for his roles in the films Yes Man with Jim Carrey (Marv), Heathers (Ram) and Mame (Peter) with Lucille Ball! NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8pm on CBS, right before Bull starring former NCIS star Michael Weatherly.
