The Dateline episode “Poisoned” investigates the July 22, 2015 murder of chiropractor Dr. Mary Yoder. She and husband Dr. William “Bill” Yoder ran a successful family practice in Whitesboro, New York. NBC correspondent Andrea Canning reports that detectives were focused on her family members as suspects before they received an anonymous letter. In 2017, the Yoders’ 23-year-old receptionist, Kaitlyn “Katie” Conley, was charged with Mary Yoder’s murder (giving her a deadly dose of colchicine), second-degree forgery, two counts of first-degree falsifying business records and two counts of petit larceny. Conley’s first murder trial in May 2017 ended in a mistrial. In November, after her second trial, Conley was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter. She will be sentenced on January 11, 2018.
Conley didn’t just work for the Yoders for four years, she was the girlfriend of the Yoders’ son Adam. She was so close to the family that Conley was listed among the survivors and loved ones in Mary Yoder’s obituary in July 2015. Less than one year after Yoder’s murder, in May 2016, Conley graduated from the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute. One month after her college graduation, Conley was charged with murder. Katie’s sisters, who believe she is innocent, have started a Facebook page and website: Free Kaitlyn Conley. Dateline airs Fridays at 9pm on NBC.
