The protagonist of the 2017 reboot of S.W.A.T. is former Marine, Lieutenant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. Played by CBS Criminal Minds star Shemar Moore, Hondo is tasked with running a specialized tactical unit in Los Angeles to stop crimes. (Note: Hondo was originally played by the late Steve Forrest in 1975.) The captain in charge of the S.W.A.T. is Jessica Cortez of the Los Angeles Police Department, who has “off-the-books relations” with Hondo.
Captain Jessica Cortez is portrayed by Stephanie Sigman. The Mexican-born actress is known for her roles on Narcos (Valeria Velez), American Crime (Monica Salazar), The Bridge (Eva), and in the horror film Annabelle: Creation with CBS Without a Trace star Anthony LaPaglia (Sister Charlotte). There is also no forgetting Sigman in the James Bond 007 2015 film Spectre with Daniel Craig (she played sexy Estrella). S.W.A.T. airs Thursdays at 10pm on CBS.
