Shi’Ann Jones is one of the youngest artists on Season 13 of The Voice, and she’s a serious contender. On Jennifer Hudson‘s team, Shi’Ann has proven herself worthy of being in the Top 11. Shi’Ann’s only 15 years old but she isn’t afraid to show off her range when she sings songs like Mariah Carey‘s “Vision of Love.” For her Top 11 live performance, Shi’Ann dares to sing the hit song “Listen” from the 2006 musical film Dreamgirls. In the film, Beyoncé as Deena Jones (the Diana Ross-like character) sings it. (Jennifer Hudson’s performance as Effie White in the film won her an Oscar.)

The song selection is perfect for Shi’Ann. It’s another opportunity for Shi’Ann to show off her range: Beyoncé’s vocals range from the note of F♯3 to G5. Plus, Jennifer Hudson has said repeatedly on The Voice that she sees a lot of herself in Shi’Ann, and that the youngster is a rising star. The song “Listen” is about the singer’s refusal to let go of her dreams and her final rise towards fame. The song begins with the lyrics: “Listen to the song here in my heart, a melody I start but can’t complete.” The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
