On the November 17 episode of ABC 20/20, Elizabeth Vargas interviews a boy with Treacher Collins syndrome, a rare cranio-facial condition. His real life experiences are similar to those related by the protagonist of the worldwide best-selling book Wonder, written by RJ Palacio. The movie has been made into a movie starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson as the parents and Jason Tremblay (Room) as the boy. The novel was inspired by the 1995 Natalie Merchant song “Wonder.” Merchant (former lead singer of 10,000 Maniacs) said on a BBC podcast that the song “was about a child born with a congenital disease.” The Merchant song is featured on the soundtrack of the film Wonder.
