In the Madam Secretary episode “Shutdown,” the country faces a government shutdown. Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni) is asked to negotiate an agreement between the White House and its congressional opposition led by Senator Carlos Morejon. McCord struggles as she believes she’s the only one with a conscience amid a battle based on political perception. McCord accuses Morejon of extortion.
Senator Morejon is portrayed by José Zúñiga. The Honduran-born, New York-raised actor is known for his roles on Snowfall (Ramiro), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Eli Morrow), Taxi Brooklyn (Detective Eddie Esposito), Desperate Housewives (Detective Heredia), Ghost Whisperer (Officer Luis Simon), CSI (Detective Chris Cavaliere), and That’s Life (Ray Orozco), among many others. Zúñiga will play another officer in the 2018 season of American Crime Story about the Miami murder of fashion icon Giovanni Versace. Madam Secretary airs Sundays at 10pm on CBS, right after NCIS: Los Angeles.
