In the Supergirl episode “Far From the Tree,” while Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) joins J’onn on a personal mission, Eliza (Helen Slater, the original Supergirl!) throws a wedding shower for her daughter Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima). The celebration provokes Maggie to reach out to her estranged father, Oscar Rodas, who kicked her out of the house when he learned that his daughter was a lesbian. As Maggie once said, “Growing up a non-white, non-straight girl in Blue Springs, Nebraska” wasn’t easy. For better or for worse, her father shows up at the shower.
Maggie’s father is portrayed by Carlos Bernard. He’s known for his roles on 24: Legacy (Tony Almeida, see video below), The Inspectors (Henry Wainwright), Dallas (Vicente Cano), Scoundrels (Sergeant Mack), and The Young and the Restless (Rafael Delgado), among others. Fun fact: Bernard is married in real-life to Scandal actress Tessie Santiago. Supergirl airs Mondays at 8pm on CW.
