In the Season 3 premiere episode of Mr. Robot, a car salesman named Irving (Bobby Cannavale) has Elliot (Rami Malek) in hiding. He’s taking orders from Whiterose who’s at the E Corp nuclear power plant. Whiterose explains that Elliot’s father used to work for him “unbeknownst to him of course” and ponders at the “coincidence” of now having Elliot working for him. Weeks before the episode airs, B.D. Wong — who plays the transgender Whiterose — posted a photo with the Groucho Marx quote: “Don’t let the fear of the thorn keep you from the rose” (see below).
Wong is also known for his roles on Gotham (Dr. Hugo Strange), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Dr. George Huang), Awake (Dr. John Lee), Oz (Father Ray Mukada), and All-American Girl (Dr. Stuart Kim), among others. Wong is also recognized for his roles in the Father of the Bride (Howard Weinstein) and Jurassic Park (Dr. Henry Wu) movies, and on Broadway (M. Butterfly, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Pacific Overtures). Mr. Robot airs Wednesdays at 10pm on USA.
