The popular 1980s nighttime soap opera Dynasty is getting the reboot treatment on The CW. And it’s about time! The original Aaron Spelling show featured “the glitz and gloss of extreme wealth” possessed by the Carringtons. The patriarch, oil tycoon Blake Carrington (John Forsythe), marries his young secretary Krystle (Linda Evans) which pisses off his daughter Fallon (Pamela Sue Martin) and his ex-wife Alexis (Joan Collins). Not much has changed other than the multi-cultural actors playing the roles, the spelling of their names (Krystle is now Cristal, like the champagne), and their dynastic modern wardrobe. (I plan to trademark the term dynastic wardrobe before The CW does!) Dynastic wardrobe, btw, means over-the-top glam.

In the series premiere episode “I Hardly Recognized You,” Fallon learns that her soon-to-be mother-in-law Cristal is given the job of COO that her father had promised to her. This news prompts a good ole’ fashioned cat fight that Joan Collins and Linda Evans would be proud of. Dynasty airs Wednesdays at 9pm on The CW, right after the teen soap opera Riverdale.
