Baroque Obama, the fun photoshopped memes of the 44th US president in baroque era garb, hasn’t yet caught President Trump‘s attention evidently. Because a Twitter response would surely be expected from Trump. First, there is little doubt these photos are fake news. Second, these Baroque Obama portraits clearly feature his great rival and temperamental opposite, Barack Obama, looking “elite” and rich and suave — in other words, all the things Trump wants his shiny stuff like Trump Tower to represent. In addition, the Baroque Obama trend would also seem to question the subject’s birthplace, a favorite pastime of the current president.
Baroque Obama surely looks European. (Not to mention that the Baroque period ended around 1750, before there was even a United States to be born in.) How Trump remains silent on the Baroque Obama is perplexing. Rex Tillerson has made no comment. Nor have any of Trump’s generals — both Mattis or Kelly are going about their business as if this Baroque Obama trend wasn’t even happening.
As you can hear above, there is even a Baroque Obama song. Trump, as far as is known, does not have a song, unless you count Eminem’s recent contribution. Baroque Obama started floating aroundyears ago –here’s a Reddit posting from 2014 and there are some examples from 2012 below. But outlets like HelloGiggles are reporting an uptick in the attention the images are getting. More Baroque Obama below. (Note: references to actual Baroque period art are very loosely regulated!)
